Magazine Cover Review

    The cover of a magazine is vital to a magazines first impression, and is a factor is if someone chooses picking that magazine up over others. My impression of all of these magazine covers were very different for each one. Covers with famous artists on them really caught my attention because it made me curious as to what these people. who's music I listen to all the time, really though about things that were going on in our world today.

   One cover that stood out to me was the Rolling Stone cover with Travis Scott on it. This really caught my attention. This one stood out to me, not because of the choice of words and formatting on the front, but because of the dark aesthetic of the front of the magazine. The use of color and lighting was very good on the front of this magazine. Another cover that stood out was the GQ cover featuring Lil Baby. This magazine cover's setting really helped picture the articles it was advertising on the front. The setting, seemingly downtown Atlanta where the rapper Lil Baby is from, goes hand-and-hand with the articles statements on the cover. Statements about political unrest and oppression in his community are addressed as well- this makes me curious as to what this popular artist's views on this are. Possibly the most eye catching cover is the Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Addition. This is for one reason- the reason that they intended- the girls. Putting pretty women on the front of a magazine is a great way to get men to read a magazine and evidently it works. The last cover that really caught my attention was the Food & Wine cover. Put beautifully decorated deserts and beverages on a magazine cover makes your mouth water more than anything. The use of the colors makes the food pop and look even more appetizing than it would if it were right in front of you. The article Chances are you won't bother to read this article. It is just one long block of text, after all, unbroken by alluring pictures, snappy captions, or eye-grabbing infographics. You can't click it. You can't flip it. All you can do is read it. (Does Size Matter?) addresses the importance of a magazines front covers because people do not want to take the time to read long articles nowadays. Things such as ADHD in young adults are causing less readers to have an attention span long enough to finish reading these seven thousand word magazines, causing sales to go down. This is why the cover image is so important.
